Anita Desai completed her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Delhi in 1957.

Fasting, Feasting was also shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1999.
She has received many awards for her literary work. She was given the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2014. Anita Desai has also taught creative writing in several top universities in the USA like MIT.
