Example: They have a paper due tomorrow, so they will be burning the midnight oil tonight

  1. Hit the nail on the head – To be exactly right about something.

Example: John hit the nail on the head when he suggested Peggy was tired from overworking.

  1. Once in a blue moon – Very rarely.

Example: Once in a blue moon, the washing machine makes a funny noise.

  1. Spick and span – Very clean.

Example: It took Shimbhu two hours to make his room spick and span.

  1. Under the weather – Feeling unwell.

Example: Lalit has been under the weather for two weeks and should see a doctor.

  1. That costs an arm and a leg – Very expensive.

Example: Gita’s fancy new car must have cost her an arm and a leg.
