He buys him sweets, ice cream, and takes him on rides. Gradually, Raman develops a deep emotional attachment and starts imagining a future with the child. He dreams of becoming a caring father, providing a home, education, and happiness that he himself lacks.
The presence of the child brings a sense of purpose back into Raman’s life. He even begins to plan practical changes—returning to his work, earning money, and creating a lively home environment. The boy becomes a symbol of hope and emotional healing for him. Raman also projects his past relationship with Daisy onto this situation, imagining strange possibilities about parenthood and revenge, revealing his unresolved feelings.
However, the child’s true nature also appears. He is mischievous, restless, and always hungry, constantly demanding food and rides. Raman manages him with patience, even enjoying his playful behaviour. Despite the difficulties, Raman feels happier than he has in a long time.
The turning point comes suddenly when the boy spots his real family in the crowd and runs towards them shouting “Amma.” Raman follows and sees the boy reunited with his parents. The father scolds and even beats the child, which deeply disturbs Raman. The mother protects the boy, but the moment makes Raman realize that the child belongs to another world.
With this realization, Raman quietly withdraws. His brief dream of fatherhood ends abruptly. The story closes with him returning to his lonely life, but with a subtle change—he has experienced warmth, care, and emotional connection, even if only for a short time.
