She completed her graduation from Miranda House, Delhi University, her M.A. from Dalhousie University, Canada, and her M.Phil. from Delhi University.

She taught English Literature at Miranda House, Delhi University, for over 25 years and became one of India’s leading feminist voices through her novels.
