Educated at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Bond later lived in the U.K., but his longing for India brought him back in 1955.
Ruskin Bond’s first novel, The Room on the Roof (1956), won the prestigious John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. Many of his works like Angry River, The Night Train at Deoli, and A Flight of Pigeons capture human emotions with simplicity and warmth. His ghost stories and autobiographical works, including Lone Fox Dancing, reveal his love for storytelling.
Several of Bond’s stories have been adapted into films and TV shows, notably The Blue Umbrella and 7 Khoon Maaf. Recognised with the Sahitya Akademi Award, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan, Ruskin Bond remains an iconic voice in Indian English literature, inspiring generations of readers.
