She has won many awards for her contribution to Indian literature. She received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990 for That Long Silence. She was also honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009.

Shashi Deshpande’s writing style is simple, clear, and powerful. She does not use heavy or difficult words. Her focus is always on emotions, relationships, and the inner life of women. She often writes in the first person, which makes her stories more personal and relatable.

Through her work, Deshpande has given a strong voice to Indian women. She is one of the most respected women novelists in Indian English literature.
