The Birthday Party Act 3 Quiz : The next morning, Meg and Petey sit at the breakfast table. Meg tells Petey there’s no cornflakes because Goldberg and McCann ate all the fried bread. She notices Stanley’s drum is broken, possibly during the party, but feels happy that he had it for his birthday. She wonders why Stanley is still asleep and tells Petey she tried giving him tea, but McCann said they were “talking.” She guesses they must be old friends. Seeing a car outside, she is relieved when Petey says it belongs to Goldberg.
Goldberg comes down and says Stanley will join them soon. Meg leaves for shopping. Petey asks if Stanley is alright. Goldberg vaguely says Stanley is “a little better,” but blames a nervous breakdown caused by the party. He shares that such breakdowns can happen slowly or suddenly. Petey mentions the house was dark when he returned last night, and McCann, whom Goldberg now calls “Dermot,” informed him about Stanley.
McCann enters with two suitcases and says Stanley has gone silent. He refuses to go upstairs again, saying Stanley tried to force his broken glasses onto his eyes. Goldberg says they’ll take Stanley to “Monty,” who might be a doctor. While they wait, Goldberg shows signs of exhaustion and confusion, even asking McCann to blow in his mouth to feel refreshed. Lulu enters and accuses Goldberg of exploiting her, but she leaves in anger after being humiliated by both men.
Finally, McCann brings Stanley, now clean-shaven and dressed oddly. Though Goldberg and McCann talk positively, Stanley cannot speak. They force him to leave with them. Petey protests but fails to stop them. After they leave, Meg returns unaware of what happened. She still believes it was a beautiful party and imagines herself as its star.
