The Blind Dog MCQ Quiz with 20 Questions

The Blind Dog MCQ Quiz : R. K. Narayan’s short story “The Blind Dog” presents a touching yet painful picture of the relationship between a stray dog and a blind beggar in the town of Malgudi. Through simple events, the story shows both loyalty and cruelty in human life.

At the beginning of the story, the dog is an ordinary street dog living in the marketplace. It is not attractive or special in any way. It survives by eating leftover food from shops and garbage in the streets. The dog spends its days wandering through the market, fighting with other dogs and resting under a culvert during the hot afternoons. This carefree life continues for about three years.

One day, a blind beggar starts sitting at the market gate to ask for alms. An old woman brings him there every morning and takes him home at night. The dog notices the smell of food from the beggar’s bowl and approaches him. Instead of driving the dog away, the blind man gently touches it and shares some food. Slowly, a friendship develops between them. The dog begins to sit beside the blind man every day.
Soon the dog understands the beggar’s routine. It learns that people who pass by should give money to the blind man. If anyone tries to leave without giving a coin, the dog pulls at their clothes and forces them to drop something in the bowl. The dog also protects the blind man from a mischievous boy who often tries to steal the coins.

The situation changes when the old woman who cared for the blind man dies. The beggar is left alone and homeless. A ribbon-seller suggests tying a cord to the dog so that it can guide the blind man. From that day, the dog loses its freedom and becomes the blind man’s guide. The beggar now moves around the town to earn more money, but he treats the dog harshly. He forces it to walk continuously, beats it with his stick, and never allows it to rest.

Seeing the dog’s suffering, some shopkeepers feel pity. One day, the perfumer secretly cuts the cord and frees the dog. The dog happily runs around the market, enjoying its lost freedom. Meanwhile, the blind man struggles helplessly without his guide.

After many days, however, the dog unexpectedly returns to the blind man. The beggar ties it again, this time with a strong steel chain. The dog once more becomes a prisoner of its cruel master. Watching this sad scene, the ribbon-seller remarks that only death can free the poor animal.
