The Martyr’s Corner MCQ Quiz with 20 Questions

The Martyr’s Corner MCQ Quiz : R.K. Narayan’s The Martyr’s Corner presents the simple yet meaningful life of Rama, a roadside food vendor in Malgudi. Rama runs his small evening business at a busy corner near Market Road. Though people think he works only for a short time and earns easily, his day actually begins very early in the morning. He prepares all the food items himself and then comes in the evening to sell them. His stall, though temporary, attracts many customers because of its tasty and cheap food.

Rama is shown as a hardworking and observant man. He understands his customers very well, including poor boot-polish boys, drivers, and labourers. He feels sympathy for the poor and wishes they could eat more, but at the same time, he cannot afford to run his business as a charity. His stall becomes a lively place where different types of people gather every night. Despite the lack of cleanliness, people continue to enjoy his food without complaints.

His life runs smoothly and peacefully until one day a sudden political clash breaks out near his usual spot. A small quarrel turns into a violent riot, leading to destruction, police action, and even deaths. This incident changes everything for Rama. The place where he used to run his business is declared a “martyr’s corner” in memory of a political leader who died in the clash. A memorial is built there, and Rama is not allowed to return to his old spot.

Forced to shift to a distant place, Rama loses his regular customers. His business begins to fail, and he is unable to earn enough. Gradually, his quality of food declines, and people stop coming to him. Finally, he is left with no option but to close his business. He takes up a small job as a waiter in a hotel, earning very little compared to his earlier income. [Analysis of The Martyr’s Corner]
