Tughlaq Scenes 10-13 MCQ Quiz

Tughlaq Scenes 10-13 MCQ Quiz : Scene 10 takes place in the palace of Sultan Muhammad. His step-mother warns him about the serious danger caused by the copper currency scheme. She informs him that hundreds of carts full of counterfeit coins have reached the treasury. The Sultan admits his mistake but refuses to withdraw his order, as that would mean accepting failure. Instead, he orders the fake coins to be dumped in his rose garden. The step-mother also requests him to stop torturing the nobles. During their conversation, she finally confesses that she arranged the murder of Najib to save the kingdom. The Sultan feels betrayed and sentences her to death by public stoning. After this harsh order, he breaks down completely and prays to God, begging for mercy. This scene reveals his inner guilt, loneliness, and spiritual confusion.

Later, Barani announces the arrival of Ghiyas-ud-din Abbasid. Public prayers, which were banned earlier, are restored. The Sultan appears spiritually shaken and deeply remorseful.

Scene 11 shifts to the open ground outside Daulatabad fort. The people are starving and angry. They are not interested in prayers; they want food. The announcement of Ghiyas-ud-din’s arrival brings no joy. Aziz, disguised as Ghiyas-ud-din, enters with Aazam. The Sultan welcomes him with respect. A Hindu woman tries to expose Aziz, but the crowd misunderstands her cries. Riots break out as hunger and anger explode. This scene shows public suffering and how easily people are misled.

Scene 12 focuses on Aziz and Aazam inside the palace. Aazam is frightened by riots and the Sultan’s strange behaviour. He describes how the Sultan wanders alone at night among heaps of fake coins like a madman. Aazam wants to escape, but Aziz refuses. Aazam finally leaves alone, showing the contrast between fear and greed.

Scene 13 is the final and most powerful scene. Barani informs the Sultan that his mother died in riots caused by royal soldiers. The Sultan accepts responsibility. Soon, it is reported that Aazam has been killed while escaping. Aziz is exposed but boldly admits all his crimes. Shockingly, instead of punishment, the Sultan rewards him with a government post. The play ends with the Sultan exhausted, spiritually broken, and confused, showing the tragic collapse of an idealistic ruler.
