Arundhati Roy Quiz

Arundhati Roy Quiz : Arundhati Roy, born on 24th November 1961 in Shillong, Meghalaya, is a renowned Indian author and political activist. She gained global fame with her debut novel The God of Small Things (1997), which won the prestigious Booker Prize. Known for her bold voice, Roy actively raises concerns about environmental, human rights, and social justice issues in India.

Coming from a mixed background, Roy’s father was a Bengali tea estate manager, while her mother, Mary Roy, was a Christian educator and activist who successfully fought for equal property rights for Christian women in India. Arundhati studied architecture in Delhi but pursued writing instead. Early in her career, she wrote TV scripts and acted in films, but controversy over her criticism of Bandit Queen drew her back to literature.

Roy’s first novel, praised for its lyrical style and Indian themes, faced legal trouble over obscenity charges but also made her a household name. After two decades, she published The Ministry of Utmost Happiness (2017), highlighting issues like Kashmir conflict and gender identity.

Her nonfiction works, including The Algebra of Infinite Justice, Capitalism: A Ghost Story, and The Architecture of Modern Empire (2024), reflect her deep political engagement. Roy’s activism, especially against dam projects and in support of Kashmir, often invited legal challenges, including sedition and UAPA charges.

Despite controversies, Roy has received numerous honors, such as the Lannan Cultural Freedom Prize, Sydney Peace Prize, and PEN Pinter Prize, recognising her courage and commitment to truth and justice.
