Attila MCQ Quiz 20 Questions

Attila MCQ Quiz : R.K. Narayan’s short story Attila presents a humorous and ironic account of a dog whose nature is completely opposite to his fierce name. The family buys a puppy during a time when thefts are increasing in their neighbourhood. They want a strong and frightening guard dog, so after much discussion, they name him “Attila,” inspired by the historical figure known as the “Scourge of Europe.”

Although the puppy has a strong body and a somewhat fierce appearance, his behaviour soon disappoints the family. Instead of being aggressive, Attila shows excessive friendliness towards everyone. Whenever a visitor enters the house, he runs towards them, but instead of attacking, he becomes gentle, wags his tail, and seeks affection. Even strangers like postmen, vendors, and beggars are warmly welcomed by him. Gradually, he even stops reacting actively and simply wags his tail from a distance.

The family, especially the mother, becomes unhappy with Attila’s uselessness as a guard dog. They complain about his large appetite and inability to protect the house, even when flowers are stolen daily from the garden. His gentle nature becomes a source of irritation and mockery.

One night, a thief named Ranga breaks into the house and steals valuables. Attila encounters him but, instead of barking or attacking, behaves in a friendly manner. The thief easily escapes, and surprisingly, Attila follows him out of the house, forming a strange companionship with him.

However, the story takes an unexpected turn. After some days, a member of the family spots Attila following Ranga in the market. When Ranga tries to escape, Attila runs after him, unintentionally causing him to fall. The stolen jewellery is revealed, and the thief is caught by the people and police.

Attila is finally praised as a clever and heroic dog. The family begins to admire him, though the reader understands the irony that Attila’s actions were not driven by intelligence but by his innocent and friendly nature. The story humorously highlights the contrast between expectations and reality, showing that true nature cannot be changed by mere naming. [ Attila Audiobook]
