The Snake-song MCQ Quiz : “The Snake-Song” is narrated through the Talkative Man, who shares a strange and unforgettable experience from his past. The story begins after a music concert, where he criticizes modern music and claims to have deeper knowledge due to his own training under a great but unknown village musician in Kumbum. This master lived a simple life yet possessed extraordinary musical power. Under him, the Talkative Man learned music with dedication and dreamed of fame and success.

One night, while practising the punnaga varali raga, which is associated with snakes, he was disturbed by a sadhu who asked for food. Irritated, he refused rudely and drove the sadhu away. Before leaving, the sadhu cursed him, saying that it would be his last day of music. Though disturbed, the young musician continued playing.

As he became deeply absorbed in his music, he imagined divine visions connected with the serpent. Suddenly, a real black cobra appeared in his room, raising its hood and swaying to his tune. Terrified, he realised that stopping the music would provoke the snake. So, he continued playing the same snake-song repeatedly to keep the cobra calm. The entire night passed in fear, exhaustion, and helplessness as he played continuously.

Whenever he tried to change the tune, the snake reacted angrily, forcing him to return to the same raga. At last, unable to continue, he surrendered himself before the snake, calling it divine and accepting his fate. Surprisingly, when he opened his eyes, the snake had disappeared.

The next day, his master explained that playing such a raga at night was dangerous and had likely attracted the serpent. He also warned that if the snake returned, the musician would be forced to repeat the same ordeal. Unable to bear this fear, the Talkative Man gave up music completely.

Filled with regret, he realised that his rude behaviour towards the sadhu had brought this misfortune. Since then, he has been wandering in search of that unknown sadhu to seek forgiveness, hoping one day to return to music.
