Out of Business MCQ Quiz 20 Questions

Out of Business MCQ Quiz : The story Out of Business presents the sudden downfall of Rama Rao, a middle-class man living in Malgudi. He was once a successful agent of a gramophone company. His life was stable, and he lived comfortably with his wife and children in a decent bungalow. However, due to a chain of unexpected events in the business world, the company collapsed. This disaster left Rama Rao without any income and pushed him into financial hardship.

At first, he tried to manage with the little money left and by selling his stock, but gradually everything was exhausted. His family was forced to adopt a simpler life. They moved from their comfortable bungalow to a small house near the market. His wife reduced expenses, sent away servants, and shifted the children to a free school. Despite his efforts, Rama Rao could not find a job. Being nearly forty years old and once self-employed, he found it difficult to adjust to seeking employment. Everywhere he went, he received polite refusals.

The emotional burden of failure deeply affected him. Each evening, he returned home to see the hopeful faces of his wife and children, which increased his pain. Their silent disappointment and suffering disturbed him greatly. In this situation, Rama Rao became attracted to crossword puzzles in a journal called The Captain, which promised a large prize. He began to invest small amounts of money every week, hoping to win and solve all his problems.

This hope soon turned into an unhealthy obsession. He neglected his family and spent his time thinking only about puzzles. Even when the family struggled for food, he demanded money to send entries. His mind moved constantly between hope and despair, and his mental condition became unstable.

One day, after failing again, he lost all hope and decided to end his life by lying on a railway track. However, fate intervened as the train was delayed due to an accident. This unexpected delay made him realise the value of life. He returned home with a changed heart.

At home, he found new hope when his wife informed him about a possible sale of their bungalow. This gave him a practical solution to restart life. He firmly decided to give up his obsession with puzzles and begin again with a sense of responsibility. [Out of Business Audiobook]
