Tughlaq Scenes 7–9 MCQ Quiz

Tughlaq Scenes 7–9 MCQ Quiz : Scenes 7 to 9 of Tughlaq present a sharp contrast between the suffering of common people, the moral decline of individuals like Aziz, and the inner collapse of Sultan Muhammad Tughlaq.

Scene 7 : This scene takes place at a camp on the Delhi–Daulatabad route. Aziz is in charge of the camp and is disguised as a Brahmin. A poor woman begs him to allow her to take her crying child to a doctor. Aziz refuses without any sympathy. Even Aazam’s request fails to soften him. Soon, a large family appears before Aziz, showing the hardships faced by ordinary people during the forced migration.

Aziz and Aazam then discuss the Sultan’s new plan of introducing copper coins. They decide to make fake coins to earn money, knowing that copper coins have the same value as silver ones. This scene clearly shows the difference between the two characters.

Character Nature
Aziz Cruel, clever, dishonest, money-minded
Aazam Soft-hearted, guilty, morally disturbed

Dark humour appears when Aziz mocks a man who has six children but is still unmarried. The scene highlights growing corruption and moral decay.

Scene 8 : Set in Daulatabad in 1332 A.D., this scene shows two watchmen guarding the fort at night. The Sultan appears and talks about his youthful dreams and ambitions. He admits that all his plans to create a strong and just empire have failed.

Barani arrives, and the Sultan opens his heart to him. He speaks of rebellions, drought in Doab, and the spread of fake copper coins. He feels lonely, guilty, and restless. Barani advises him to stop violence and cruelty. Suddenly, news arrives that the Vizier Najib has been murdered. This scene reveals the Sultan’s mental agony and the collapse of his ideals.

Scene 9 : In the hills, Aziz and Aazam are now highway robbers. Aazam questions their sinful life, but Aziz proudly speaks of dishonest ways to gain success. Their servant Karim mistakenly brings Ghiyas-ud-din Abbasid, the Sultan’s guest from Arabia, instead of a Turkish merchant.

When Aziz learns that the man is alone and helpless, he kills him and decides to go to Daulatabad disguised as Ghiyas-ud-din. This scene shows Aziz’s extreme cruelty and lack of conscience.
