Sarojini Naidu Quiz

Sarojini Naidu Quiz : Sarojini Naidu, known as the “Nightingale of India,” was not only a celebrated poet but also a patriot, freedom fighter, and social reformer. Born on 13th February 1879 in Hyderabad, she was the eldest daughter of scientist and educationist Aghorenath Chattopadhyay. She displayed remarkable talent from a young age, writing her first poem at eleven and topping the matriculation exam from Madras University at twelve. She pursued higher studies in England at King’s College, London, and Girton College, Cambridge, where she was guided by English poets Edmund Gosse and Arthur Symons to write poetry rooted in Indian themes.

Her poetry, though written in English, beautifully reflects Indian culture, traditions, and imagery. Her famous collections include The Golden Threshold (1905), The Bird of Time (1912), The Broken Wing (1917), and The Feather of the Dawn, published posthumously in 1961.

Sarojini Naidu’s patriotic spirit was deeply influenced by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Gopal Krishna Gokhale. She actively participated in the Indian freedom movement, joining Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation and Salt Satyagraha movements. She also championed women’s rights, working with the Women’s Indian Association and leading delegations for women’s suffrage. In 1925, she became the first Indian woman to preside over the Indian National Congress.

After India’s independence in 1947, she became the first woman Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Until her death in 1949, Sarojini Naidu remained a symbol of literary brilliance, women’s empowerment, and patriotic dedication.
