In Chapter 20, Sydney Carton visits Lucie and Darnay after their marriage. He sincerely apologizes to Darnay for his earlier behaviour and asks permission to visit occasionally. Though Darnay accepts, he does not fully understand Carton’s true feelings. Lucie, however, shows sympathy towards Carton and asks Darnay to be kinder to him. This chapter highlights Carton’s hidden goodness and emotional depth, which others fail to notice.
