Use of Prepositions : Prepositions are small words like “in”, “on”, “at”, “of”, “with”, and “since”. But don’t let their size fool you — they cause the most mistakes in English grammar. Even good students often get confused between “since” and “for”, or “in” and “at”. This is why almost every teaching exam in India — RPSC, REET, RAS, CTET, and other State TET exams — asks questions on prepositions every single year.
The tricky part is that there is no fixed rule for many prepositions. You cannot always guess them by logic. Some usages simply have to be learnt and practiced again and again until they become natural to you. For example, we say “married to” but “married with” is wrong. Such small differences are exactly what exam papers test.
This quiz has been made to help you practice exactly these tricky areas. It covers:
- Common prepositions used with verbs (agree with, apologize for, depend on)
- Prepositions used with adjectives (fond of, afraid of, proud of)
- Time and place prepositions (in, on, at)
- Confusing pairs (since/for, between/among, beside/besides)
- A few tough, exam-level questions for extra practice
There are 51 questions in total, moving from easy to difficult level. Attempt each question yourself first, without checking the answer immediately. This way, you will know exactly which rules you are weak in, and you can revise them properly before your exam.
Practice this quiz a few times over the coming days. Prepositions are one topic where repeated practice really works, and marks in this section are easy to secure once your basics are clear.
All the best for your exam preparation!
