Engine Trouble MCQ Quiz with 20 Questions

English Trouble MCQ Quiz : “Engine Trouble” is a humorous story narrated by the Talkative Man, who recalls a strange incident that turned his life upside down. A travelling fair called Gaiety Land arrives in the town, bringing excitement, games, and lotteries. By chance, the narrator wins a road engine as a lottery prize. What appears to be a valuable reward soon becomes a great burden.

The narrator, being a poor man, is confused about how to handle such a huge and useless prize. The showman refuses to help in transporting it, and after the fair leaves, the engine remains on the Gymkhana Grounds. Soon, the municipality orders him to remove it or pay rent. With no solution, he begins paying heavy rent, which badly affects his financial condition. His wife becomes upset, and he even has to pawn her jewellery.

He tries to sell the engine to different people, including club authorities and municipal officials, but no one is interested. As pressure increases, he decides to move the engine with the help of a temple elephant, fifty labourers, and a man named Joseph to steer it. However, the attempt turns disastrous. The engine goes out of control, crashes into a wall, and creates chaos. As a result, the narrator is burdened with multiple expenses such as repairing the wall, paying wages, and covering medical costs for the injured elephant.

Completely helpless, he plans to run away. At this moment, a Swamiji arrives and offers to use the engine for a yogic demonstration. But the plan fails due to police intervention. Just when all hope seems lost, an earthquake unexpectedly solves the problem. The engine falls into a nearby well. The owner of the property is happy, as the engine seals the dirty well, and in return, he agrees to pay all the narrator’s expenses.

In the end, what began as a lucky win turns into a series of troubles, but fate finally brings relief. The story humorously shows how unexpected fortune can sometimes create more problems than happiness. [ Engine Trouble Audiobook ]
